NFL to possibly extend regular season by one or two games

Roger Goodell said that he was looking forward to the owners meeting in May in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He was hopeful for a proposal for a expansion of the regular season to 17 or 18 games and dropping two preseason games. Still keeping the 20 game format intact, although it will probably not happen until 2011 or so.
The fact of the matter is that something like this will take time to pull off, they are going to have to talk to the players union and media partners. The collective bargaining agreement with players will expire after the 2010 season, so a longer schedule is just one of many issues Goodell wants to go after.
"I haven't made a decision on whether we'll have a 17-game or 18-game season. We'll have a good feeling on it when we come out of these meetings," Goodell said. "We have to sit down with our partners and go through negotiations. We think our content continues to be more valuable to our partners."
I think that this would be great for the league in more ways then one. To see a preseason game they still charge you normal prices to get into the stadium. A lot of players are getting hurt in the preseason and not playing in the regular season because of it. It will add more competition by adding more games, if a team starts off bad it will give them more time to bounce back and have a chance for the playoffs. It will also increase revenue for the league with more people watching for one or two more games and having more people in the stands. Lets not forget that it will give us football lovers two extra Sundays of real football.
