Vintage motorcycles racing and on show, and vintage and modern sidecars racing: This is the upcoming Bonneville Vintage GP and Concours. It takes place this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, outside of Salt Lake City. I'll be there and I'll be sending you reports. And pictures. Lots and lots of pictures.

This will be the fourth year for this GP and Concours, and the promoters are pushing to become a much bigger and well-known attraction. Here's what they have to say:

In the world of motorcycle racing, there are places and events that have become legendary. The Isle of Man, Laguna Seca, Brands Hatch, Daytona...

In 2009, you can be part of this fourth year event, at the newest world class racetrack - the largest in North America - that will very soon... also be legendary.

Have you ever seen sidecar racing? Have you ever even seen these modern rigs that racing sidecars have evolved into? Check out this page to see what modern sidecars are like.

Things get going on Friday, Sept. 4, with American Historic Motorcycle Racing Association (AHRMA) roadracing practice. Two-time World Superbike Champion Doug Polen will also be offering a racing school and there will be a police motorcycle competition and training.

Then on Saturday things really get hot. The first event is a LeMans-start "Battle of the CB-160s," followed by the vintage and legend bikes doing some parade laps. Then the AHRMA racing begins, and then the sidecar racing.

Also on Saturday is the Bonneville Vintage GP Concours d' Elegance Vintage Motorcycle Show, presented by Motorcycle Classics magazine.

Sunday continues the battle of the CB-160s, as well as the AHRMA racing and sidecar racing.

Frankly, my interest in this event is not the races. I don't know who is racing or much care who wins. My interest is in the vintage bikes that will be on show and on the track, the people who bring them here and race them, and the sidecars. Those sidecars are just something else altogether. It should be fun. I'll do my best to share some of that fun with you.
