I scan my Google Alerts breathlessly every day looking for news of all my favorite stars and their motorcycles. And day after day my heart is broken: the news stories almost never tell me about the bike.
What was Peter Facinelli riding? What bike was Brad Pitt on when he was spotted? When Hugh Jackman showed up on a motorcycle for the premiere of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," what was the bike?
OK, you didn't really think I was serious, did you? I mean, I'm so far from caring about celebrities that if you had asked me yesterday about Facinelli I wouldn't have had a clue who he was. For those of you like me, Facinelli is an actor in the movie "Twilight."
I do, however, scan my Google Alerts every day. That's one of the ways I keep up on real news in the motorcycling world. And inevitably I see stories about celebrities on motorcycles.
You know, motorcycles are so cool! And it's so cool--and so newsworthy!--when you combine actors and motorcycles! Let's splash their pictures all over the internet!
The funny thing is, these so-called news reports almost never tell you what the motorcycle is. Here's the bit on Facinelli.
New Moon vampire dad Peter Facinelli was spotted on a beast of a motorcycle yesterday in Toluca Lake, California. It is good to see he’s taking some time for himself now that he’s finished with his role on the New Moon shoot!
And the bit on Jackman.
Hugh Jackman arrives by motorcycle at the premiere of the movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in Tempe, Arizona April 27, 2009.
At least the report on Brad Pitt being seen on a motorcycle (big, big news!) said that "The actor looked to be having a marvelous time, speeding away from paparazzi on one of his custom motorcycles."
OK, it was a custom. That makes me feel better. Of course, the headline on that one was "Brad Pitt spotted in a motorcycle." I'd like to see that.
Clutch and Chrome picked up on the Brad story but at least they expanded it to talk about his preferences in bikes and what he owns.
And contrast all those silly stories with this report about Billy Joel's exhibit of his classic bikes. They actually tell you what bikes he has (mostly Harleys).
I don't really have a point here. This whole thing just seemed so stupid to me, so I decided to vent. Enjoy your day.
