The Aqua Star underwater motorcycle
  The Aqua Star

The things that some people create just blow me away. Within one week I saw news items about an underwater motorcycle, called the Aqua Star, and another bike with retractable wings that flies, called the SkyBike.

Now, this underwater bike doesn't appear to have the option of hauling you around on land, it's strictly for in the water. It has two electronic motors that permit movement in all directions.

Two Russian brothers created this thing and plan to have it to market by next summer.

The bike is supposed to be capable of depths up to 12 meters. That yellow helmet you see is part of the unit, and it supplies the oxygen for the rider. Top speed is about 4 miles per hour.

And then we have the SkyBike.

This little baby is produced by Samson Motorworks and is called a Multi Mode Vehicle. With two wheels in front and one in back, it's one more of hte multiplying number of three-wheeled bikes on the scene.

The big difference is those wings. When you're cruising around on the ground they're retracted into the body of the machine. Get to the airport -- or your favorite deserted bit of two-lane blacktop -- and extend the wings and it's up, up, and away!

There are a number of models, so we'll look at the Hybrid AeroBike. This thing has an empty weight of 710 pounds and is 15.5 feet long. It seats two, has a maximum speed of 80 mph and a range of 560 miles. They even offer a 70,000 mile/six year warranty on the drivetrain.

Standard features include heat and AC, stereo CD with MP3 player, seat belts, front disc brake, a video rear-view monitor, and a bunch more.

Making it legal requires registration as a motorcycle.

I don't see any pricing information so if you're interested you'll have to contact the company.

What will they come up with next? I don't know, but I'll pass it along whenever I see it.
