The Maricopa county section of MUFON will be conducting a skywatch in conjunction with the "Moonlight Hike" at Lost Dutchman State Park, near Apache Junction, Sunday, March 8.
This is a monthly event sponsored by the Parks Department and is a ranger-led hike on a well-traveled, easy trail from the parking lot up onto the gentle slope leading to the Superstition Mountains.
The event is free, but there is a $5 parking fee.
There are rest stops along the trail, with narration from the ranger, along with Native American flute music.
Phoenix MUFON will be attending and valley residents interested in night time observation and the UFO phenomenon are encouraged to meet in the parking lot.
The Superstitions have had a long history of UFO and ET phenomenon, which will be covered in a future examiner.
The first observation of amber orbs on the night of March 13, 1997 —The Phoenix Lights — was of "a hexagram pattern at about 7:30 PM over the Superstition Mountains area east of Phoenix, the characteristic 8+1 formation of amber orbs was next seen in two separate arc patterns with "trailing lights" over the Gila River area at about 9:50" according to investigator Bill Hamilton.
Some of the Petroglyphs in Superstition Wilderness appear to depict alien creatures and craft.
A quick sampling of reports from the National UFO Reporting Center indicate ongoing UFO activity over the Superstitions.
5/4/2008:
2 big, white orbs of light spotted near the Superstition Mountains.
I noticed that the birds that come to my yard were absent, and it was extremely quiet.
I noticed a very big, and bright orb of white light. It was very high up, traveling in a rapid path from the east towards the west. As I watched it for awhille, a second orb appeared along side of it. They flew in tandem for what seemed like 5 minutes. Then the second orb turned bright red, then disappeared.
I went outside at about 8 AM and when it was over, the clock said it was 9:38. It seemed like 15 minutes.
2/1/2008:
Object was spotted at the southern tip of Superstition Mountain as I was driving East on U.S. 60. Object appeared metallic in nature. It could only be seen as it turned, otherwise it was not visible to the naked eye. Possibly due to sunlight reflecting off craft. Object appeared thin, with a noticeable triangular shape. It moved at a high rate of speed, changing directions often.
12/4/2006:
At 0700 my wife noticed an odd cloud in the SE sky, maybe 2 mi from our house. If 2 miles is about right, then I would guess it's altitude to be about 1000 ft, and it's size to be about 100 feet high. No other clouds were visible anywhere. The cloud looked flat, was vertically oriented, and had perfectly straight sides, and was diamond shaped. My first thought was that it was some kind of huge kite. I looked at it through a spotting scope, and could tell that it was clearly a cloud.
I then noticed a round object above the cloud, which my wife could see without the scope, and through the scope it had a frisbee shape, with what looked like a hole in the center. The object looked solid, and had clearly defined edges. It began to move downward, extremely slowly, and changed it's orientation so that it looked almost edge on to our viewpoint, then went behind some low hills just south of the Superstition Mtns.
2/8/2006:
There were two lights that appeared one after another on the eastern skyline.
The first one appeared and flared up rather than instantly appearing. A few seconds later another light appeared next to it in the same fashion. They then one after the other disappeared in a similar fashion, with lessening intensity.
The lights were orangish in color and relatively small (though much larger than the standard star in the sky or aircraft lights).
The same exact thing happened 2-3 minutes later but this time it was in the East-Southeast direction rather than directly east.
10/10/2005:
While driving west on US highway 60, I looked up and observed two half moon shaped craft that appeared to have like a tail wing almost translucent, I watched them for about 5 or 6 seconds and then they where just gone.
Later on my return trip I again observed 1 craft on the east side of the highway I watch it for about 10 seconds and it also then just disappeared.
The hike is from 7:30-9:30 PM
