On Saturday, November 7, 2009, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida and InterContinental Miami will celebrate the 15th Annual InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball with the theme of “Imagine,” inspired by John Lennon’s iconic song promoting peace and hope. The evening will feature an action-packed live auction emceed by Pamela Anderson, musical performance by Beatlemania Now and the first anniversary of the Ball’s InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Nightclub, hosted by Ball Chairman Shareef Malnik, along with nightlife impresarios Michael Capponi and Antonio Misuraca.

“This year’s Ball will be the most magical yet,” said Norm Wedderburn, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. “With a guest list including South Florida’s most generous individuals and a live auction line-up of impressive items, I am confident we will raise the funds needed to make our children’s wishes come true. I am incredibly grateful for the time, dedication and heartfelt generosity of our host committee and local community, whose efforts have kept the wonder of a wish alive.”

The evening will begin with an extravagant Beatles-inspired cocktail reception in the Mezzanine, which will be transformed by Bruce Sutka of Sutka Productions into a wonderland reminiscent of the legendary group’s songs “Strawberry Fields,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “Yellow Submarine,” “I am the Walrus” and “All You Need Is Love,” among others. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvre stations created by InterContinental Miami’s Executive Chef Alexander Feher, spirits provided by Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., and the renowned silent auction of 120 premier items donated by top hospitality, entertainment, fashion and luxury brands, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Ocean Reef Club, Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Lines and Christian Dior, to name a few. Numerous InterContinental Hotels worldwide will also provide gift certificates for exotic travel for the silent auction. Locations include InterContinental Hong Kong, InterContinental Boston, InterContinental Rio, InterContinental Toronto Yorkville, InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa, InterContinental Shanghai Pudong, InterContinental Chicago, InterContinental Madrid, InterContinental New Orleans, InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, InterContinental Praha, Athenaeum InterContinental Athens, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, InterContinental Yokohama Grand, InterContinental de la Ville Rome, Real InterContinental Hotel & Club Tower Costa Rica, InterContinental Le Grand, Willard InterContinental Washington, InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco, InterContinental London Park Lane, InterContinental Tahiti Resort and InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa, InterContinental Bangkok, InterContinental Abu Dhabi, and InterContinental The Barclay New York, among others.

Following the cocktail reception, guests will be ushered into the “Octopus’ Garden” to enjoy Chef Feher’s indulgent menu, beats by the Miami HEAT’s own resident DJ Irie and a not-to-be-missed live auction hosted by Pamela Anderson. A-list celebrities and South Florida’s top VIPs and philanthropists will be bidding on a series of over-the-top items, including a Ferrari California donated by Ken Gorin of THE COLLECTION; a home rental and golf experience at famed St. Andrews Links, Scotland, provided by Paul and Emma Woodhouse; a diamond-bedazzled mobile phone provided by Ulysse Nardin/East Coast Jewelry; a private party for 500 with full bar, courtesy of The Opium Group; a $25,000 gift certificate for Rene Ruiz Couture provided by the designer himself; the ultimate New York Jet-Setting weekend getaway courtesy of Jason Binn and Niche Media; a wine excursion provided by Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., with accommodations courtesy of InterContinental Hotels.

In true InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball tradition, the grand finale of the event will feature live music entertainment for the after-dinner crowd to enjoy. Beatlemania Now, the multimedia musical stage show, is the ultimate celebration of the 60s and the group that helped shape them, “The Beatles.”

Following the Ball and for the second time in InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball’s history, the after-party at InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Nightclub will be held to celebrate the Ball’s endeavors and reintroduce the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida to the next generation of contributors and Miami’s tastemakers in the fashion, arts, music and nightlife industries. Hosted by Shareef Malnik, Michael Capponi, Clif Loftin and Antonio Misuraca, the InterContinental Miami’s Chopin Ballroom will be turned into a hip after-hours venue with progressive beats by DJ Joe Dert, a performance by cult-favorite Tokyo Diiva [siic], a fashion show by avant-garde designer Richie Rich and a special appearance by his muse, Pamela Anderson.

“I am greatly looking forward to celebrating the first anniversary of the InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Nightclub,” said Shareef Malnik. “The success of the inaugural event has provided us with a pivotal medium for promoting our cause to the next generation of Wish granters. The exhilarating entertainment along with the anticipated crowd of South Florida’s most spirited and influential up-and-comers will make this an unforgettable event.”
