Food has gradually made its way into skincare products. There are eye creams infused with green tea. Moisturizers enhanced with all kinds of fruit – the more exotic the better. Not only are these products expensive, but the results are no better (and in some cases worse) than if you started eating these foods rather than applying them to your skin. Read on to find natural cures for the most common skin conditions.

Acne

There are three natural remedies for clearing up acne – selenium, Vitamin E, and Vitamin A. Selenium and Vitamin E should be taken together. Taking one or the other will not yield the same results. Seafood, mushrooms, and barley are all excellent sources of selenium. Almonds and green, leafy vegetables are high in Vitamin E. Consuming too much selenium can have dangerous side effects such as hair loss, anxiety, and depression. Most experts recommend staying under 400 milligrams per day, but check with your doctor to see how much is right for you.

Doctors and researchers have known for a long time the positive benefits Vitamin A has on the skin. It’s essential for skin repair and hormone balance. It can even help reduce the appearance of acne scars. Carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes are the best sources of Vitamin A.

Age Lines

Antioxidants are the best protectors against wrinkles because they neutralize cell- damaging free radicals. Different foods contain different antioxidants, and they each play a unique role in keeping your skin looking fresh and young. The antioxidants found in green tea have the most positive impact on preventing and correcting age damage. Try to drink at least one cup of green tea per day. Other excellent sources are berries, red wine, and dark chocolate.

Sun Damaged Skin

Antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids clear up sun spots and even reduce the risk of skin cancer. If you have dark spots from too much sun or a family history of melanoma, try increasing the amount of avocados, broccoli, and salmon you consume. A recent study also found that coffee and tea can be especially beneficial in preventing skin caner. The antioxidants in coffee bind to precancerous cells and repair them before they have a chance to become cancerous.
