Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce has launched a contest to pick the best businesses in the neighborhood. The online poll breaks down into eight categories: Best Beauty/Salon/Spa Service, Best New Retail Shop, Best Dressed Window, Best Outdoor Cafe, Most Unique Business, Best Neighborhood Hangout, Best New Restaurant or Bar and Golden Years Award (honoring longtime Lakeview East businesses).

The contest pits places like local coffee fave Intelligentsia against Argo Tea, Starbucks (what!?), Avenue Tavern and The Closet for Best Neighborhood Hang. Reckless Records, Stella's Diner and The Bagel join eight other spots for the Golden Years Award. It's hard to select your favorite when the lists are so diverse, but it's nice to give a shout-out if a place dear to your heart has made the list. I'll be penciling in raved-about Korean chicken eatery Crisp for Best New Restaurant.

Nominees were selected based on Chamber of Commerce members' write-ins and the year in which the businesses opened. The places that receive the largest number of votes in each category will recieve a crystal award. Prizes will be presented at the annual Chamber meeting on January 27 but voting ends Monday, January 12, at 5 p.m.

Lakeview is also home to a mighty tasty, super cheap Mexican BYOB. Find my review of it here.
