Two  modern (but still welcoming) craft supply stores, lots of snappy patterned fabrics, and a “fierce” Project Runway winner…sounds like a perfect combination, right?  It was!  There's just one problem.  It happened about three weeks ago.  Sewing and quilting emporium Spool, and its sister yarn store, Loop, have started a monthly stitch party where people can come to work on current projects, or just to socialize and get inspired.  January’s stitch party was the first, and it started off big, by hosting the original Project Runway champ, Jay McCarroll.  A Pennsylvania native, Jay is currently promoting both a new line of quilting material and his new film, Eleven Minutes.  The fabric is a sweet collection of bright, whimsical patterns and the movie is a documentary about McCarroll’s journey towards completing his first fashion line.  The photos at Spool’s blog make me sad I missed the party.

But I’m not telling you this in vain!  You can still have a little piece of Jay McCarroll, as his fabrics are available for purchase at Spool.  And while he probably won’t be at this month’s stitch party, the gathering promises to be fun, with snacks, drinks, goody bags, and door prizes.

The next Spool and Loop stitch party is on Friday, February 27, from 5 pm to 8 pm.  The stores are located at 1912-1914 South Street in Philadelphia.  More interesting tidbits: Spool offers use of their sewing machines and tools for only $10/hr every Monday through Friday from 12-5.  Both stores offer a full selection of classes, from beginner to project-specific.

For more info: Visit Spool and Loop's websites, where you can find info on their supply selections, class schedules, and links to the store blogs!
