It wasn't that many years ago that I said Bluetooth was going to die an untimely death. Boy, was I wrong! Bluetooth is now everywhere and it has become a standard on even the cheapest of mobile phones. It also comes on every Mac. I'm not kidding. Even the MacPro models all have it preinstalled and they don't come with wireless. So, why does Apple still ship machines with USB peripherals? I'm not sure, but I would assume it would be cost.. I purchased my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (the slim metal one) for US$80 and I've got Bluetooth mice which can run near US$100 themselves.
MacAlly's BTkey Wireless Keyboard will go for US$70 when it becomes available and its a full-size keyboard, including all of the expected Mac keys and a numeric keypad. It also uses the same kind of scissor mount that laptops use to offer very low profile, low effort key acctuation. Now, the keyboard isn't as low profile as it could be, but it looks low slung enough to support the latest trend in input devices; lack of height. The idea is to place your hands on the surface as naturally as possible.
Personal experience with this says it works.
