With Age of Conan and Warhammer not exactly living up to their claims of being the next great MMO, here are my five games slated to release later this year that could give Warcraft a run for its money:
1. Aion - Already acquiring major accolades from the South Korean community, Aion is projected to be the next big MMO to hit US shores. Combining an incredibly deep character customization interface along with gorgeous graphics and an aerial combat system, this game certainly has a lot going for it out of the gates. One major drawback to this game is its graphics, considering to get the most out of it you’re going to need to overhaul your system to run this game smoothly.
2. DC Universe Online - The brand name alone is enough to draw people into this game. Set in the DC world, this MMO looks to bring players along for the ride alongside some of DC’s major players such as Batman and Superman fighting with or against you. Early demos of the game seem very promising but one of its drawbacks that could hinder the release is that it conjures images of City of Villains/Heroes
3. A.P.B - David Jones, developer of Grand Theft Auto is coming out with his own GTA style MMO. Given the option of being the law enforcer of law breaker, it’s your job to establish control of San Paro for your side which in turn gives you cash for various upgrades. Time will tell how fun this concept will actually be.
4. Stargate Worlds - Another game that draws fans from another medium, Stargate Worlds is another highly anticipated game slated for a 4th quarter release date. Staying true to the series, Stargate Worlds is set to have a fps combat system which is a nice change from the usual third person setup commonly used. Maybe this will finally be the space MMO that sustains a strong following.
5. The Agency - A spy inspired MMO, The agency looks to bring the game out into the real world. One of the features mentioned for the game is getting messages via your phone from the game, possibly from your operatives or from your agency that you’ve joined or created. Of all the games this one has my interest the most just because if done correctly, this has the potential to be extremely addicting.
