I thought the 'D' in DWI stood for 'driving'

A Niagara Falls man was charged with driving while intoxicated -- even though he was not only not driving, but he and a friend were asleep in his car.

Officers said there was minor damage to the car, which was halfway up the snowbank when they arrived just before 6 a. m. in the 2200 block of 22nd Street at Allen Avenue. One passenger was in the rear and one in the passenger seat, said police, adding that they were unable to wake the two young men when they knocked on the window.

Police said that when they opened the door to the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of alcohol. Police also said the two admitted they changed seats so no one could be blamed for driving drunk.

Here's what I'm thinking. Couple guys went out for a few beers Tuesday night, started driving home but slid into a snow bank -- it is February in Buffalo, after all -- and decided to play it safe by not pushing their luck on the roads. Pretty much qualifies as responsibility in my book.

Poor lads. Now they know there's no such thing as the rule of law here in the good ol' U.S.S.A. Damn them for having the temerity to turn on the heat so they didn't freeze to death until they were sober enough to drive.
