I didn't bother to watch the VP debates last night because I had much better things to do -- helping my wife get the house ready for our son's 1st birthday party this weekend for one -- and, frankly, I just don't think I have the gastric fortitude to listen to these statists anymore.
But this morning I read this post by LRC's Jim Ostrowski, who noted Joe Biden's misunderstanding of the constitutional powers of the office for which he's campaigning, and couldn't help thinking that maybe one big reason the vast majority of federal lawmakers fail to uphold the Constitution they're duty-bound to defend is because they just don't understand it in the first place.
To be sure, Joe Biden is no champion of limited government and the Constitution itself provides few real limitations on the expansion of the State (after all, any government that can levy taxes is unlimited in scope), but if Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert ever went around the House and Senate office buildings quizzing our beloved masters about specifics contained in the Constitution, I bet it'd be funnier than Jey Leno's "man on the street" interviews.
