As if you haven't heard, the Senate overwhelmingly passed its version of a financial "rescue package" last night, and McCain and Obama, who were not among the 25 senators to display at least some semblance of fiscal sanity, demonstrated for all you voters yet again that there is no meaningful difference between them.
Shifting gears, I particularly liked the so-called rationale "tough" Tom Coburn (R-OK) -- the reigning GOP "champ" who opposes those relatively meaningless congressional earmarks -- offered as he caved to Republican leadership:
Taxpayers who want to ensure that this doesn’t happen again should send a very clear message to Washington that it’s time for Congress to live within its means and restore the principles of limited government and free markets that made this country great. I will do everything in my power to ensure that this bill does not lead us down a slippery slope of European style socialism and slow economic growth.
Gee, Tom, from where I'm sitting, you could have done "everything in your power" to make sure the bill doesn't lead to even more American socialism by -- oh, I don't know -- voting against it.
