Breckenridge
Take a self guided bicycle/history tour of Summit County. There are over 200 miles of paved bike paths. Tours are perfect for novice and advanced cyclists. You can ride by mining camps, abandoned railroad routes, and high country roads. You can ride the bike path to Vail. There are several bike shops for rentals or repairs. For more information view Summit County's biking website.

This week in Breckenridge: 2008 Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic on Friday, August 22 2008 at 9:00 a.m. International teams compete in a 3 day professional cycling event organized by the Vail Valley Foundation.

Winter Park
Despite the snow on the high peaks and continental divide there is still a lot of great hiking around. Here’s my favorite: From Route 40 in Winter Park turn onto Vasquez Creek Road (next to Cooper Creek Square Mall). Go to the end of the road (about 5 miles). Hike 3 miles to the trailhead for Vasquez Pass. It’s approximately 5 miles to the top of Vasquez Peak and the Continental Divide.

This week in Winter Park: Check out the High Country Stampede Rodeo Saturday August 23, 2008. Junior rodeo starts at 4:00 and main events starts at 7:00. Location County Rd. 73, Fraser, CO. Adults $10, Children 6-12 & Seniors $8, 5 & Under Free

Events include Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, and the always popular, and my favorite, Bull Riding. Then for the kids: Mutton Busting and the Calf Scramble. There is a Barbeque at 4:30om till around 9:00pm.

Steamboat Springs Ski Town USA
Take a hike on Fish Creek Falls. The trail head is about 5 miles from downtown Steamboat Spring. A must see on this hike is the 280 foot waterfall. Once you climb through the rocky canyon and aspen grove there are views of the Fish Creek and at the 3 mile mark is a bridge. It’s worth your while to do this hike. While you’re in Steamboat Spring you might as well indulge in the hot springs. There are two options. In downtown is Old Town Hot Springs open seven days a week with eight hot spring-fed pools, two waterslides, a fitness center ,exercise classes and massage. A more rustic option is Strawberry Park Hot Springs 7 miles from downtown featuring three pools at various temperatures up to 104 degrees.

This week in Steamboat: Check out the Olympic Heritage Walking Tour Sponsored by Tread of the Pioneers Museum. Every Wednesday from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM there is a walking tour that explores Ski Town USA’s Olympic heritage; the multiple talents of Carl Howelsen; and the history of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Winter Carnival, Howelsen Hill, and ski jumping. Once at Howelsen Hill, participants will witness the daring feats of ski jumpers soaring through the air during practice. All participants get a FREE ticket for a chairlift ride at Howelsen Hill.
