Early numbers are starting to come in, and Killzone 2 is on track to be the third-fasted selling PS3 title to date.

Website VGChartz.com, which tracks sales figures for the video-game industry, released statistics today that show Sony's exclusive Playstation 3 title has sold more than 750,000 copies since its launch on Friday.

That would place it firmly behind 2008's PS3 darlings, Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4, for sales pace.

The site also reports that despite the title's sales success, it didn't appear to result in a large boost hardware-sales numbers for Sony so far. However, it's too early to tell for certain.

The news is interesting enough, as Sony is in need of another exclusive monster title to follow up Metal Gear Solid 4's success. But consider this small point brought to light by Examiner.com's Philadelphia gaming-news Examiner, Daniel Landis.

According to his very fine piece last week, his sources say that Killzone 2 is also the most returned video game to date and seems to be selling well in the resale market.

VGChartz tracks only new game sales, and resold copies don't count in its numbers. And neither Sony nor developer Guerilla Games receives any profit from the reselling of games.

If Landis' theories are true, that could mean Killzone 2 is a much faster seller than it seems. It could also mean that it's one of the most successful and profitable titles ever for Sony, coming right at the time the company could use a little good news.

But if so, Sony lost out on a huge chuck of the game's sales revenue due to resales.

One now has to question whether forcing customers to pre-order the game to get early access to the demo is now working against Sony. Especially when the deal was exclusive the the country's biggest gamer-reseller, GameStop.
