The Wall Street Journal, which opposed criminal investigations or even congressional inquiries into things like . . . oh . . . torturing people to death, illegal wiretapping, and massive corruption among military contractors is calling for a criminal investigation of ACORN- a non profit group that has received 53 million dollars over 15 years in federal tax payer money.
This morning I watched Fox News as they skulked around congress trying to track down the 7 senators who didn't vote to cut off funding for ACORN in light of the recent "gotcha tape" scandal. That was big news on Fox News. Tracking down the 7 people who didn't vote to cut funding to a non profit group that ekes out services to the poorest among us because some of their employees were caught on tape being idiots.
Trillions of tax payer money have been given to the largest most powerful banks and financial institutions in this country, much of which they simply refuse to tell us what they are doing with or who received what amounts. Goldman Sachs all but runs the Federal Reserve and is actually going to come out of this crisis even more powerful and richer because of tax payer money. In fact- the playing field of big banks and financial houses is now much smaller and in fewer hands than it was a year ago, the stink of corporate/ government incest and cronyism is all over this financial crisis . . . but Fox News is running down Senators who voted to keep funding a non profit that has received a minuscule amount of federal dollars and the Wall Street Journal- which has called any attempt to investigate blatant acts of illegal torture intolerable "criminalization of policy differences"- is calling for the Justice Department to investigate a ghetto poverty group.
It actually all makes very depressing sense.
Glenn Greenwald sums it up quite well.
