Last night a story briefly appeared on CNN about how prisoners at GITMO will be getting H1N1 flu shots and how this was sure to be "controversial" because some Americans are finding it difficult to get the vaccine. This story was bogus from the get go.  This is the sort of "issue" that one would expect Fox News to create out of thin air (see ACORN). GITMO- like all federal prison facilities- is supposed to get a certain allotment of the flu shot as prisoners are deemed a high risk to epidemics due to their living conditions.

Like many other facilities- GITMO hasn't received the shots yet and they don't know when they are going to arrive. The story ends there? Wrong.

CNN was shamelessly trying to stir up reich wing stupidity with this non story. And the Boston Globe followed their example- putting this story on their front web page last night. And a whole bevy of reich wing blogs and the usual posting boards picked up this "issue" and ran with it. And of course- Obama was blamed personally for this decision- as if he personally ordered vaccines to be distributed to the inmates of GITMO.

Is there any limit to the extremes of stupid pettiness that the reich wing hordes will not sink too? Obama hatred among them is at the point of the delusional. They are so over the top with their constant drumbeat of petty criticisms on quite literally everything he does. This constant stream of idiocy that flows from the activist right about Obama makes it all that much harder for legitimate real criticisms of this administration to get a hearing- as they will be obscured amid the giant stupid stink cloud of puerile kook blather that hangs over these people everywhere they go.

More depressing than this story being posted on numerous reich wing blogs are the comments section from their readers. In wing nut bizzaro land all prisoners in GITMO are simply called "the terrorists" (never mind that hundreds have been released after years of false imprisonment). One can read comments on such sites to the effect that they should all just be shot- or infected with the virus and sent back home to spread it among their families.

And now I am reading that Congressmen from "both" parties (they are one party in reality) are getting in on the act and are "condemning" this routine bureaucratic decision.

Is this how petty we are as a country now? Never mind for the moment that GITMO hasn't received the vaccine yet- and that they don't even know when they are going to get it- like many other facilities and institutions across the country- are we so depraved and petty as a country that we actually find the inoculations of prisoners (none of whom have been charged with let alone convicted of anything) to be offensive?

Just when did this country become a nation of petty sadistic D-bags that would find something like this to be controversial? Maybe when the Texas GOP adopted a plank in their platform that would seek to deny "extraordinary" health care to any prison inmate should serve as the official beginning of the American "D-bag era".
