Fourth of July restaurant and picnic specials in Washington DC
It’s summertime and the Fourth of July is just around the corner. Celebrate the 4th in some of Washington’s restaurants that are offering star-spangled specials.
TenPenh (1001 Pennsylvania Ave.NW) is open for dinner from 5:30 to 11 p.m. The bar, lounge and patio open at 3 p.m. Appetizers from the bar menu are half-priced and include such tasty morsels as lobster Rangoon and duck confit spring rolls. $5 cocktails are available in the bar, lounge and on the patio from 3 to 6 p.m. and from 9:30 p.m. until closing time. The restaurant is just a few blocks from the National Mall. Valet park on Pennsylvania Avenue for $7 and you’re right there for the concert and the fireworks.
DC Coast (1401 K St. NW) is opening its doors from 5:30 to 11 p.m. The Eastern Shore dinner special is summer on a plate: crispy tempura soft-shell crab with sweet corn, fingerling potatoes and bacon for $14.
The bar and lounge at Ceiba (701 14th St.NW) open at 3 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Specials include fish tacos, empanadas and Peruvian ceviche, each priced at $5 in the lounge and bar. The bar will offer The Spirit cocktail, a blend of champagne, St. Germain (an elderflower liqueur) and white grape juice.
2941 Restaurant (2941 Fairview Park Dr., Falls Church, VA) will display two rare examples of the Declaration of Independence this Fourth. The documents will be on display for patrons of the restaurant over the weekend on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July. In the spirit of the holiday, Executive Chef Bertrand Chemel will create a special three-course prix-fixe menu, priced at $58 per person. A selection of Virginia wines will complement the menu.
If you prefer to take a picnic with you down to the Mall, Asia Nine (915 E St.NW) is planning a BBQ Grab-N-Go menu boxed for carrying to any location. The menu includes Thai barbecued chicken and Laos grilled steak for entrees, which come with the choice of two sides, including sticky rice, house salad, papaya salad or bacon cheese fries. The Grab-N-Go menu is priced at $20 and can be ordered ahead by calling 202/629-4355, or ordered at the door.
Suchi rolls are also available for take-out or eat-in. Asia Nine’s Firecracker Roll is a mix of spicy tuna, white tuna, cucumber, scallion, Japanese rice pearl, and spicy cherry sauce. The Independence Roll features lobster salad. Sushi and sake combinations are $16; the rolls are $12 each.
Chef/owner Robert Wiedmaier of The Butcher’s Block, a Market by RW (1600 King St., Alexandria) in Old Town is crafting two picnic packs in honor of the nation’s independence and to celebrate the city of Alexandria’s birthday on July 11. The Fourth of July Sandwich Pack and Fourth of July Cheese and Charcuterie Pack will be available on Saturday, July 4 and Saturday, July 11. The packs must be reserved by 7 p.m. on the Wednesday before by calling 703/894-5253, and will be ready for pick-up at 11:30 on the morning of the 4th and 11th. The Sandwich Pack ($45) contains sandwiches, chips, olives and cornichons, cookies, water and wine or beer; the Cheese and Charcuterie Pack ($60) includes cheeses, salami, olives and cornichons, a baguette, water and wine or beer.
