Just as Peter Russell foresaw when he produced his lovely film, “The Global Brain,” our continual efforts at producing more useful technology are creating a convergence of brain power. Research is enhanced by access to subjects found through the Internet and knowledge is compounded by people using and sharing tech tools. I see it as a busy honeycomb, the bees carrying pollen from various plants (diversity of information) into the hive where honey is made (useful tools to support our learning). Sometimes the bees swarm, and we’re overwhelmed with the buzzing.

Still it feeds back into itself, giving us ever more sophisticated (read: accessible) ways to address our challenges. The way the Internet grows and develops is so similar to the way the brain grows and develops, it’s hard not to see that global brain pulsing with thought as one organism.

I heard from Martin G. Walker today,  the brain behind the “mind evolve IQ training program.” I could easily spend the rest of the day in fascination, following links and confirming what I’ve said in the past about the ability of the brain to continue to develop. But I’ll point you at the info instead, because I am already happily informed and prowling around feeding on honey.

See Martin’s blog here at IQ Test Training. (Did you know you can improve your fluid intelligence by as much as 50%? Whew!) And a National Academy of Sciences abstract with Susanne Jaeggi’s team backing up his work here, "Improving fluid intelligence with training on working memory."

Later on I’ll be doing some interviews of the people who come up with this stuff, so we’ll learn more about Martin and his peers, what drives them and how they use the Web. (If you want to jump ahead, check out Martin’s other blog on rational philosophy.

See more good news about fluid intelligence, and the irrelevance of your age (sweet!), from this article on Wired.com.

But before you settle in, how about getting yourself a nice big glass of water. Squeeze of lemon? There you go.

Stay cool.
