This post is part of the Glossary Series, a 100-day conversation designed to develop and clarify the language we use to describe online communication. As Year 2008 comes to a close, the emerging Glossary of Online Communication will be published along with a selection of the comments from my readership. I hope to see your comments among them.
I was reminded about this concept when I was snooping around the ‘net looking at glossaries. Here, at The Urban Muse, Susan Johnston has given us a definition to work with. Thanks, Susan!
Day 10: User-generated content
User-generated content: This is sometimes called “citizen journalism” if it's a news site. Examples include TripAdvisor.com, Yelp.com, and Zeer.com. A newspaper was launched in Boston with the idea of bringing bloggers to print audiences five days a week. It died within a year. Magazines like Budget Travel have tried this, too.
As always, do let me know in the comments if you know of a different meaning for these terms, or a better term to describe the meaning.
Suzanna
