Adaptations by Internet heroes

Adaptation: The bending of our minds toward efficient use of technology to achieve our means. As we adapt we become better explorers. And then we start building things.
What I see emerging in
Web 55.0, or the Boomer Web, is an upwelling of offerings we have all fostered in our own way, deep in our hearts. I’d name these offerings:
- Entrepreneurial
- Innovative
- Solution-based
- Community-furthering
- Inspired
- Creative
- Uplifting
That’s a start.
Every one of these descriptors fits many (tens of thousands and more) efforts which we can now go visit online. Efforts. Well, that’s a good word too, since a great deal of effort goes into some of these creations.
As we teach each other technology, though, and feed back to the great Poobahs of technological advances, on high in their
Herman Miller chairs (my fantasy), and they come riding back with more accessible ways to accomplish online tasks, it does get easier. And more fun!
Internet heroes: Regular people using technology to engage a larger community with more focused material.
These are the ones making the big difference. Jenn Givler is one such gal, and it’s my fortune to have found her group on Yahoo.
Powerful Entrepreneur is the name she chose, and it has played out its name in spades.
This is a women’s group. Jenn’s attention as owner-moderator has given the group a bubble to ride around in. As a group member, I’ve found women from across the spectrum of experience, interest, and age. We have women over 70 doing business online right along with women under 30. Jenn’s presence is strong and consistent, two aspects which are an absolute must in a successful
Yahoo group. You can easily see her entrepreneurial spirit, her creativity, her desire to uplift and further community when engaging the group there. Because her group has strong bridges across generations, I dub Jenn Givler a Boomer Ally.
Aside: I wonder what it’s like to be an advertiser looking through the peephole at the conversations on all those Yahoo groups. I hardly notice the ads that flash as I make my way into the Messages area, and then they’re gone. Maybe I’ve gotten used to it. (Uh-oh. Don’t want to upset the advertisers, they do flow the money that makes a lot of this available. Hmm. Conundrum.)
I like to keep a balanced view of the offerings on the Web. That means it’s time to go look at
Google groups, too. I think I even started a Google group once, but I’m so used to the Yahoo scene I haven’t gone back over to Google. I'll get to it, and report in. I'll drag the net over social media, too, as soon as I have a spare minute. That’s the way of the online world. Overwhelm comes quickly, and we retreat to our familiar caves. Lovely caves!
