One thing I learned at Social Media Camp  yesterday, is that social networking flowered out into an unmanageable field of weedy flowers immediately after inception. Really, the way things explode on the Internet is beyond my ability to muse.

So why is it there are still so many people trudging along the communication tracks, using social media, selling it, talking about it, expanding it even further? Well, that’s pretty easy. It’s communication. It’s what we’ve got and it has shown enough promise to keep tending it. And –  oh, yeah, there are billions of dollars running through it.

Consultants have come along too, to help us sort it all out. Running a business has never been simple. Is it that much harder now with all these options? You tell me, I’m too deep in it now to remember “before.”

Teresa Morrow addresses the common issues succinctly on her website, Key Business Partners.  What I like about Teresa’s perspective is that she sees the whole picture, and incorporates social media as part of an intelligent plan for exposure. It’s so easy to get out of balance with the options for exposing a business – ask anyone who has tried and given up on the world of online marketing.

In the same thought bubble, though, the benefit of all this chaos may be the job market growing within it. It’s a great big petri dish with a lot of experimental organisms. One life form that’s taken hold is this relatively new kind of coaching which Teresa is offering. The need is clear. The help is available. What you as a business person have to do is learn it yourself through places like BlogCatalog,  find a group to learn with like a Yahoo group for example,  or employ a coach or consultant  to guide you.

Best starting point: Follow the easy path by using systems you already understand, and continuing to engage learning opportunities that are only a skootch beyond your current skills. If you start having that sinking feeling, irritation or the word “GACK!” comes to mind, click away, my friend, click away.
