Tampa Bay offers a variety of events mom
So, you’re on vacation during Mother’s Day, and need something special to do with mom. Tampa Bay has a lot to choose from: resorts, spas, beaches and plenty of great restaurants.
Here are a just few ideas for mom that the whole family will enjoy:
If you’re mom is a “girly girl”
MOSI -- the Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E. Fowler Ave in Tampa -- will serve a Mother’s Day Tea at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Mom can sip tea while surrounded by hundreds of butterflies in the BioWorks Butterfly Garden. Cost is $24.95 for adults and $19.95 for children 12 and younger. Reservations are required, call 813-987-6000.
The Florida Orchestrawill present a free outdoor concert, A Symphony of Life, at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2008 at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, 105 N. Bayshore Drive, Safety Harbor. Fireworks will complete mom’s evening.
Treat mom to an afternoon of art. The Dali Museum, 1000 Third Street, South in St. Petersburg, holds the largest collection of art by the Spanish surrealist outside of Spain. The museum is open from noon to 5 pm. Sunday. Admission is $17 for adults, $12 ages 10 to 18 and $4 for ages 4 to 9 years.
For “wild-loving” moms
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo,Exit 48 off I-275, are treating mom to a free day at the zoo with one paid zoo admission. Voted the No. 1 zoo in the United States, the Lowry Park Zoo has more than 2,000 animals and several live shows.
The Florida Aquarium is also offering free admission for mom on both Saturday and Sunday. Mom’s sure to enjoy the more than 20,000 amazing creatures at the aquarium.
Take mom on a wild adventure with a Safari Tour at Busch Gardens, or a wild ride on one of the many roller coasters at the park.
Take mom for a ride
The Florida Railroad Museum, 12210 83rd Street, East in Parrish is offering one-hour rides beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Mom’s ride free with paid child’s admission. Cost is $12 for adults, $8 for kids ages 3 to 11 years.
Treat mom to dinner and a cruise on Starlite Cruises. Day and evening cruises are about two and half to three hours.
Union Station, 601 N. Nebraska Ave in Tampa will celebrate National Train Day on Saturday with a free event from noon to 5 p.m. Amtrak, the Suncoast Model Railroad Club and the Florida Railroad Museum will have displays. The whole family can enjoy live music and appearances by the Tampa Bay Lightning Girls.
One thing’s for sure, whatever families are sure to find something unique and fun to do this Mother’s Day in Tampa Bay.
