If finding a great neighborhood for Halloween trick-or-treating is something you want to avoid this year, take the family to the zoo for a scary and fun experience.
If the thought of spending the night at a zoo among wild animals isn't scary enough, add vampires, werewolves and zombies to the mix. Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo's annual fund raiser, Zoo Boo, features 11 haunted houses mixed in with rides and animal experiences for family members of all ages.
The haunted experiences are rated. One skull and even the youngest or faintest of heart is fine. The scariest of the haunted houses earn a seven skull rating.
New this year are the Terror of Doomed Island, (5 skulls) Trapped in Time (3 skulls) and Gothic Nightmare (7 skulls.) Younger spooks can enjoy the "Little Tykes Boo House" or the "Spooky Fun Fair" plus other one-skull rated fun.
Tickets to the event are $17 for adults and $14 for kids ages 3 to 11. Anyone 11 and younger can wear a costume.
Rides and water attractions are included in the entry price, but the "Hidden in the Mist" Horsedrawn Carriage Ride is $4 per person.
Zoo Boo runs from late September to Halloween night. Hours are from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Go enjoy some spooky fun and help the Zoo Foundation, which uses proceeds from the annual event for educational programs throughout the year.
