Long one of Charlotte's fine dining favorites, Bonterra, a repurposed church deep in the historic Dilworth neighborhood is celebrating its tenth birthday with an expanded menu, adding to its already lengthy list of appetizers, tapas, steaks, chops, and seafood.
The menu here is designed to go well with wine. In fact, you might call this a temple dedicated to the grape. When the 100 plus year old church was renovated, the wine bar took the place of the altar.
Over 200 wines are offered by the glass, the most in Charlotte, and 300 different vintages are represented in the wine cellar. These are offered at some of the best prices in town, ranging from $6 up by the glass, and in a dozen different four-pour flights starting at $9.
Wine Spectator Magazine named Bonterra one of the country's "Hot New Wine Bars" not long after it opened. The restaurant has received the AAA Four Diamond Award and the DiRoNA Award of Excellence.
To go with your wine, choose from a variety of spreads for $3; housemade pate for $5; more than a dozen different cheese plates for $4 each; charcuterie for $5; or select one of a half dozen gourmet olives plates for just $2.
The "small plate" menu features Bonterra's most popular item, a fried lobster tail in a honey and soy reduction ($17) and BBQ Duck Spring Rolls ($10), a dish featured at the Taste of the NFL.
There's even a special plate of treats - raspberries, chocolate, nuts, and Stilton bleu cheese ($12) - designed to go with the extensive list of after dinner ports.
To make Bonterra even more appealing, a special list of appetizers is offered at half price every evening in the bar area and on the patio from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
