I will be the first to tell you that in a free nation each of us have a right to our ideas and beliefs. Repeatedly the Right tells us in their narcisissistic belief that they are the only real Americans that in their America only their ideas will be tolerated. That is totalitarianism and you can place whatever brand name on it you want.

As a Southern Civil War living historian, I own a number of guns. It has never ever occured to me that the government might give a rats you know what that I own them let alone decide to collect them from me. You want me to listen, well I can't even understand your views. To me they are quite frankly paranoid and delusional. You have a greatly inflated sense of your importance if you think they care about you personally in a nation with as many people as we have in it.

If you want to worry about government taking something from you you might try worrying about them taking your job. Our government seems much more interested in building China's economy than in putting America back to work. We are losing over 200,000 jobs a month but not one single gun has been collected from law abiding citizens for years.

We have tolerated all the Revolutionary War schtick and even all the calls to be armed and dangerous but the bluster and threats are wearing thin. Now we find a group of soldiers, reserves, National Guard and police are forming a group called Oath Keepers. They pledge to disobey any order that they deem unlawful. What Hutzpah!

If you read the 10 promises they sound all right but the writing is chock full of ideologically loaded statements that let anyone, who took your non partisan disclaimer at its word, know that Liberals and many Independants need not apply because there is no ideological toleration. I worry when we imperfect people suddenly get the idea that something justifes our suddenly being the judge and jury in our own self interests.

That by itself makes a sham and a fraud of your movement.  America has never had a one America vision. The trick to America has been putting all the various ideas into a unified whole and giving everyone a voice. That is why we have been the beacon of freedom for the world.

The Articles of Confederation which are more appropriate to the entire Right Wing ideology were a proven failure. Thus we had the Constitutional Convention because we needed a stronger central government. The Constitution that you Oath Keepers claim you are the watch dogs of, should actually be the Confederate Constitution, which lasted four years. That was the eloquent example of true state soveriegnty.

I have used the term narcissisim to describe the Rights whole ideological movement.  While the Right has so far never defined Socialism in any meaningful way let me define my term. A Narcissist is someone who displays traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with themselves to the exclusion of all others. They are egotistical and ruthless in the persistence of their ideals and gratifciation along with dominence and ambition.

In an era when we have the weapons systems we have, the idea that our government would expend the effort to take our weapons makes we want to laugh at this childish pathetic lunacy. It reminds me of a young socially unsophisticated  child who doesn't recognize their own projection of their  fears of their parents punishment for misbehavior. When I was ten I could see my mom taking away my gun because I didn't do my homework but government hasn't the time or the competance to start collecting everyone's guns now.

You can use the whole projection thing about this entire movement. Totalitiarianism and Liberalism is also a truly laughable fantasy. For twenty years I have said the mark of Liberalism has been their apology for even a hint of being angry which to Liberals is about as taboo as Sex is to the Right. The Liberal mantra and denial of their anger has been for years, " I'm sorry my face got in the way of your fist."

The truth is that it is Conservatives who would lock up every political opponent they could find. George Bush once said a Dictatorship was preferable to Democracy as long as he got to be dictator.

They also would hardly tolerate differences in Christianity let alone different faiths. This isn't because of race or prejudice it comes from the narcissistic belief in God's choosing favorites like some dysfunctional parent.  We are sorry for their inferiority but we are God's chosen.

If you truly believe that you need to be ready to defend against usurpation of the U. S. Constitution then where were you when George Bush was trampling it into the carpet? Was it you guys who were cursing those of us who questioned the legality of the Patriot Act, the spying on U.S. citizens against the FISA Act and the absolute lies that got us into a war we never should have been in in Iraq?

If you could have made cities into concentration camps you would have been only too happy to put many of us in them. Much of the Rights idea of Freedom of Speech would make Joseph Stalin or Chairman Mao blush with pride.

This is nothing but ideological vigilanteism while hiding behind the Constitution. Lets face it people on the Right are the only ones who would take my guns if you could because these fears you express about others doing to you are really your agressive fantasies about what you would do if you ever attained power.

Oath Keepers, like the Tea Baggers, are the ones who, if not a minority would create an American Dictatorship. It is only that they are in fact a minority that prevents them from undertaking this. They would happily lock their fellow Americans in concentration camps, take weapons away, and all in the name of their belief that they are in fact the only true visionaries of  what our Founding Fathers intended America to be. To accomplish this they would suspend the Bill of Rights without even questioning whether they were right.. The belief that they will disobey all unlawful orders is a true threat to our Democracy because you could read in their statements that as active military they would refuse orders of the president as Commander in Chief. These are the seeds of all Totalitarian military coups.
