I recently met an artist who intrigued me with one of his pieces. It was a painting of a mysterious, voluptuous woman. Oh, and she was nude. Of course, I commented to the artist about it, as his other paintings were of subdued fields and tractors. He blushed and recalled how nervous he was the first time his father saw the painting. Clearly I saw nothing immoral, embarrassing, or inappropriate about the painting. I actually found it to be quite fascinating, and by far the best piece on display; however our conversation got me thinking.
Although the above mentioned painting wasn’t of an inappropriate nude scene, my mind flooded with many that are. Below is my list…in no particular order:
- Accidentally seeing one, or both of your parents naked (really any family member for that matter).
- The doctor’s office “warning” or “educational” posters for STD’s – those herpes posters are graphic!
- Televised surgery or birth
- Catching a glimpse of the grotesquely overweight lady/man changing in the gym locker room
- The stretch-marked stripper
- Bathing a grandparent (who lives in a nursing home) changing their diaper, or performing some other unpleasant task
- Being exposed to the super hairy person on a nude beach
- Witnessing disaster nudity: someone fleeing their home (inappropriately dressed) due to fire, criminal act, natural disaster, etc.
- Starving Ethiopian children commercials
- Pretty much any nude scene in Schindler’s List
