Ferris Wheel @ Artscape
A great way to beat the heat this weekend:  Artscape 2008---Now in its 27th year!

Come celebrate the arts this weekend in Mount Vernon and Bolton Hill. I don't know if you know it or not, but Baltimore's own Artscape website is the largest, free public arts festival in the country---right in our own front yard!

Artscape will be held on Mt. Royal Avenue---business as usual---but this year, it has also expanded to Charles and Cathedral Streets.

The festival features all kinds of art. There will be sculptures, art cars, photography, dance, opera, theatre, live music on four outdoor stages, and much, much more. There will be food and drinks with lots of international and artistic flair to tickle your tastebuds.

If you wanna find your inner artist, come to the tent across from the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. You can participate in and learn many things including, but not limited to, how to draw, dance, or drum. There will be paint, paper, crayons, pencils, stickers and plenty of other stuff to make an artist out of anyone. I mean who doesn't get excited about stickers? For those who crave a little more, there will be workshop tables to learn techniques in watercolors, pastels, and other media. You can hang your finished product in their gallery. Go here to find a list of the exhibitors who will be helping the children with some of the hands-on projects:  artscape.org/index.cfm

Musical performances to include, but not limited to, Swing, Jazz, Funk, Rock, Reggae, Blues, Latin, Folk, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, and Alternative, so I am sure there will be something for every musical taste. www.artscape.org/index.cfm

You are asked not to bring your pet to Artscape. I am not sure why you can't bring your most cherished friend to Artscape, an outdoor festival, but it will be too hot for most dogs anyway so why argue about it?

Artscape: Something for everyone.

Runs all weekend---tonight, tomorrow from 12 to 10 and Sunday from 12 to 8pm. And that first sentence above may have been a little deceiving---it is going to he hot as heck so keep yourself hydrated---Happy Weekend!
