The subject of this week’s profile is actor/director/playwright Eric Lucas. A founding member and former Associate Artistic Director of Keegan Theatre, he is now the Co-Artistic Director of Keegan’s New Island Project.
Eric has spent 20 years working in local theater, appeared in 17 movies, and has done, as he puts it, “a bit of television.”
Eric (pictured left) is currently co-starring with Matthew Keenan in the popular Irish comedy “Stones in His Pocket” in which the two of them play all 15 roles. (The play is being performed at Arlington’s Theatre on the Run. For tickets, call 703-892-0202 or visit www.keegantheatre.com.)
Eric also played multiple roles in Keegan’s U.S. premiere of “Alone It Stands,” which he co-directed with his wife Kerry Waters Lucas, an experience he describes as “just a blast.”
One show Eric is particularly proud of is Keegan’s production of “Tattoo Sky,” which he both wrote and directed. “Directing something I created and having friends bring it to life was very satisfying,” he says.
Eric also has fond memories of co-starring with Keegan Artistic Director Mark Rhea in Sam Shepard’s “True West,” which they performed both here and in Ireland. “It was great to tour Ireland and beat the hell out of Mark with a toaster,” says Eric.
Asked to sum up his feelings about theater, Eric simply replies, “Home.”
