Jason Lott in "this Perfect World"

This weekend’s top pick is Charter Theater’s production of local playwright Chris Stezin’s “This Perfect World,” an intense one-man show starring Jason Lott as Alan Anton, a man whose post 9/11 anxieties have pushed him over the edge of sanity. The show is being performed at Theatre on the Run in Arlington. For tickets, call 202-333-7009 or visit www.chartertheater.org.

Speaking of intense, American Century Theater’s splendid revival of “Dr. Cook’s Garden,” a thriller by Ira Levin (“Rosemary’s Baby”) still has two more weekends to go at the Gunston Arts Center in Arlington. For tickets, call 703-998-4555 or visit www.americancentury.com.

Catalyst Theater’s extraordinary stage adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984,” also runs for two more weeks at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in D.C. For tickets, call 202-494-3776 or visit www.catalysttheater.org.

Wrapping up this weekend is Carrie Fisher’s amusing one-woman show “Wishful Drinking,” now playing at the Lincoln Theatre courtesy of Arena Stage. For tickets, call 202-488-3300 or visit www.arenastage.org.
