This week’s profile is David Jourdan who is not only one of the most talented performers in the area, but one of the nicest as well. I know this for a fact because I had the pleasure of working with him in The American Century Theater’s production of “The Andersonville Trial.”
Dave is currently playing the dual role of Cervantes/Don Quixote (pictured left) in Keegan Theatre’s splendid revival of ”Man of La Mancha” (for tickets, call 703-892-0202 or visit www.keegantheatre.com).
Dave has been performing in local stage dramas, comedies and musicals for the past 30 years. “I don’t really consider myself an actor,” he says, “More of a musician who likes to ham it up every once in a while.” When not involved in theatrical productions, Dave can be seen in area clubs singing with his rock band “Magic.”
Dave’s all-time favorite of the plays he has acted in is Reginald Rose’s “12 Angry Men,” which he has appeared in twice: first as Juror #10 in The American Century Theater’s inaugural production in the mid-90s and as Juror #3 in Keegan Theatre’s 2000 production. Describing the two roles, Dave says that "Juror #10 was a horrible bigot, which is always fun to play. And Juror #3 is doubtless my favorite role of all time: loud, middle-aged and bitter, like me.”
He also has fond memories of playing the role of Pat and composing the musical arrangements for Keegan Theatre’s two productions of Brendan Behan’s “The Hostage.” “I was pretty much playing me with a bad Irish accent,” Dave says, “But I will always be proud of the music and the show.”
Asked to sum up his theater experience, Dave reaches back to the Bard: “Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
