The H1N1 flu shots are finally beginning to show up in the St. Louis area. The St. Louis County Health department will be providing free vaccines to county residents on Saturday, November 7th.
The schools hosting the clinics are: Hazelwood West, Jennings, Lafayette, Lindbergh and Maplewood-Richmond Heights.
Line tickets will be distributed at 7am. Only 10,000 vaccines--in both shot and flu mist form--are available at this clinic. Each location will have 2,000 vaccines to give out.
You will need to bring proof of residency, like a driver's license or current utility bill to get the vaccine. The county is asking that only high risk people come to this first clinic: pregnant women, children between 6 months and 4 years, caregivers for infants younger than 6 months, children from 5 to 18 years old who have underlying medical conditions like asthma or diabetes and health care workers.
St. Louis County is still planning on vaccinating ALL SCHOOL CHILDREN for free through their school districts. If you can wait, or don't want the hassle of standing in line at a clinic, your child can still get vaccinated at school. Some children have already received their vaccines in this fashion.
According to the Rockwood School District website a free clinic will also be held in December. They will also host community clinics in November and December if they can get the vaccine. Rockwood's community clinics will charge $11 for administrative handling.
Some doctor offices are also on the list to receive vaccine, so please contact your doctor to see if it is available yet before attending the free clinic.
