Maclaren, the maker of stylish British strollers announced a shocking recall of baby strollers on Monday. Over one million strollers sold from 1999 to November 2009 are effected.
The strollers have been sold at Target and Babies R Us, and range from $100 to $360. Recalled are all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers. Models include Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller. Maclaren strollers have the word "MACLAREN" stamped on the side.
Maclaren received reports that 12 children had their fingertips amputated after they placed their fingers in the hinge where the stroller folds. "This is a very serious hazard," says Scott Wilson, spokesman for the CPSC. "We know child behavior, we know kids like to explore and sometimes put their fingers in places where they shouldn't be. But finger amputations that result from using a product that parents expect to be safe is unacceptable." ~ Time.com by Sean Gregory
Maclaren is offering a free hinge cover to solve the problem, which can be ordered online (click on the link to be taken directly to the recall page).
