Trust me, this is a lot easier to store in the original box.
You’ve tried and you’ve most likely failed. Its okay, you’re not alone. Every parent has the great ambition to keep their house clean and organized and every parent sees their plans thrown out the window when their little angel starts playing in the living room…and the bedroom…and the kitchen… Although it’s very difficult to stay on top of the constant clutter in your living room as your little one goes from her books, to her blocks to destroying the newspaper, one area that you can control is your storage space…as long as you are able to keep your angel out of the room, that is.
A common mistake made by nearly everyone, parents specifically, is thinking that getting rid of the boxes that your baby items come in is the best way to combat clutter. As you’ve certainly seen, things with a new baby change and they change quickly. Whether the change be the focus of your little ones playing as her tiny attention span rears its head, or the change in size (and clothes) through the first years of life, you are involved in an ever changing life…so get used to it. Use your understanding of these constant changes to help you prepare for a less cluttered storage space.
As far off as 1 year seems when you bring your little one home, you will quickly realize that this and other milestones will quickly be upon you. So, instead of throwing away that bottle warmer box, break it down and keep it, so you have a more organized place to store it when your little one is off the boob and on the udder. Where will you fit that large and oddly shaped swing? In it’s box, of course. Or, if you throw it away, I’m sure you’ll find a perfect place to hang it in the garage. I’ll let you decide what the best fit is for you.
For the most part, most of baby’s things are small, so storage doesn’t seem to be a problem…for now. Remember that there are A-LOT of small things and it’s much easier to stack boxes than an interestingly shaped bottle warmer, on top of a wipe warmer, in the basin of tub (not that you need all of these things). As with most things involving your baby a little planning goes a long way. So start saving those boxes to keep your garage less cluttered, because it won’t be long until you’ll need that garage space for a bike and (gulp) another car.
