One Sunday afternoon a short while ago, Joan-Marie and I had lunch at “El Senor Sol”, a Mexican restaurant we discovered last summer while waiting in line to hear Barrack Obama’s acceptance speech. On our way out, we left our business cards in a bowl marked “Win a Free Lunch”. Well, my card did not win, but Joan-Marie’s did. She invited me and eight of her closest friends to join her in what actually turned out to be an early dinner. I am always wary of these types of things, but this was a sweet deal, and a win for all involved.
Amanda Hayda, a Financial Advisor with Waddell & Reed, sponsored the dinner. Amanda joined Waddell & Reed in February of this year as announced in the Denver Post’s “People on the move”. She is a Colorado product, a graduate of the University of Colorado, and a good choice as a representative since she is a lot easier to look at than many financial planners I have met.
This was a “no pressure” deal. Our group arrived on time, Amanda briefly described her company and their services, and then bought us all a meal. What could be better than that? There was absolutely no obligation, but I left her with my contact information and I intend to give her a shot at making an old, stale 401-K of mine bounce back to life. The meal was pretty good too.
This was the first time I visited the restaurant with “carnivore” friends and, thus, my first real opportunity to have a good look at what the carnivore crowd are ordering at the Senor. Of course, I did not try any meat dishes, but I have the pictures and I have included them in a slide show at the end of this article
There are a number of El Senor Sol restaurants in area, but we dined at one across from the Aquarium just north of Elitch’s and behind Invesco Field. The building used to be Zang’s Brewery and we were lucky enough to be joined by an employee of the real estate firm that now occupies the former home of the owner of the original brewery. We got a mini-history lesson that was very insightful. We also discovered a new dance club that recently opened downstairs at Senor Sol. If you go to the club tonight, you can enjoy three bands free of charge, but only Saturday, April 25.
This turned out to be a great experience and a lot of fun for all involved. I have always enjoyed the food at El Senor Sol, but meeting with Amanda and friends made it all taste just a little bit better. Please, take my recommendation and visit El Senor Sol, leave your card in the fish bowl, and maybe you, too, will win an event sponsored by the lovely representative of Waddell & Reed. Even if you don’t, you will still enjoy some tasty food, and the opportunity to listen to live music in the new club downstairs.
