If you are looking for a tasty way to contribute to charity, consider buying a few dozen tamales from La Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana Espirituales in North Denver.
About once a month or so, parishioners get together and cook up batches of tamales they sell at $10.00 a dozen. They have pork, beef and, yes, cheese. For me, they even put jalapenos in my cheese tamales. I bought six dozen and froze most of them. They keep nicely in the freezer for a few months.
I found the tamales to be good, but not as good as the tamales at La Casita just a few blocks away. Nonetheless, they are bigger, less expensive and they do support charity. Talk about fresh! I know mine were made that day because I was in the kitchen helping Francisco pull them out of the pot! When you get them that fresh, I suggest you let them sit for a day or two so that all of the distinct flavors can meld nicely.
If you like tamales, or you like to have tamales at your holiday celebrations, consider the $10 a dozen tamales at this church. God helps those who help themselves, and this is a great way for the church to make its own money. All they need is a little help from you.
