This is a 'good to attend,' if not a 'must attend' for food writers.
Speakers and participants remain over the days, allowing ultimate interaction among authors of food and cookbooks, recipe developers, ghost writers, journalists and bloggers, as well as major magazine writers, newspaper food editors, renowned cookbook authors, literary agents, publishers, writing and other coaches and more.

Known as, “the granddaddy of all food writing conferences in the English language,” this multi-day program is excellent for kick-starting books, as well as networking with high-level professionals in the field. The Symposium for Professional Food Writers has been a resource for professional writers and editors since its inception in 1989. It exists at The Greenbrier and is presented without sponsorship. The conference offers writers an open forum where they can exchange thoughts on skills, trends, writing styles and themes prevalent in today's world of food writing. In closing, while this symposium takes place next fall in 2010, Thanksgiving is a great time to coordinate those recipes, grab some new ones from other Examiner posts that are rich in ideas for cooking tasty treats and exotic cocktails, but mostly during the warmth of a traditional feast where the art of food is wielded covering generations of foodsmithing - now is a great time to "start" that cookbook and make plans to connect and market next fall.
While this is outside the day-to-day periphery of meal and game planning for a holiday get-together, it remains something to consider during this seasonal respite.
