It's crunch time for parents still waiting for an SFUSD kindergarten

A seat opened and was filled at Claire Lilienthal.
Families still in the "wait pools" for SFUSD kindergartens started getting calls yesterday, the sixth day of the school year. This year, that's the day the district released the seats of no-shows to families still waiting for a school. (The seats were held till after Labor Day, under the theory that some uninformed families may think school doesn't start till then.)

The wildly popular blog TheSFKFiles has started to get posts from families who got The Call -- so far, posters have mentioned getting spots at Grattan and Claire Lilienthal.

It's impossible to know how many families in the wait pool for various schools are still really in the wait pool. Some move or go private (and presumably a few homeschool); some "park" their kids at another school while waiting, and decide they like that school fine. So for that reason, it may take a while for all the calls to get to every family that's truly waiting.

One poster on the blog has put her child in an available private school and has scaled back her expectations to hopes of getting an opening by Christmas. I hope it happens sooner than that. Best of luck to everyone who's still waiting! That goes for anyone waiting for high schools or middle schools too, though we don't hear anything from or about them.
