Now that you have tried one gelatin recipe for fun shapes using food coloring and fruit-flavored extract, here is another idea: tea!
Water used for gelatin is hot, so why not steep your favorite tea flavors for a flavor-filled sweet dessert? Mind using teas with caffeine, especially if you expect your little ghostesses and hostesses to head to their crypts at a decent hour.
This recipe makes use of all-natural Stevia, but Splenda can be substituted (double Splenda, since Stevia has twice the strength).
All-natural wigglies and jigglies
4 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water
3 cups boiling water
2 bags herbal tea
food coloring
4 packets Stevia
Flavoring + Food coloring:
Raspberry tea + Purple (1 drop red, 1 drop blue) for bats or cats
Orange or Peach tea+ Orange (1 drop red, 1 drop yellow) for pumpkins or leaves
Lemon tea + Yellow (2 drops)for leaves or a moon
Stawberry tea + Red (2 drops)for leaves
Sprinkle gelatin over cold water in a bowl. Let rest. Add tea bags to hot water. Allow to steep for up to 5 minutes. Stir liquid with geltain until is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes. Stir in stevia and coloring. Pour into a 13 X 9 X 2 pan (or smaller pans if you are making several colors/flavors at once).
Refrigerate until firm, about 3 hours. To serve, cut with cookie cutters, or cut into squares.
