In an amazing cease fire last night, Stephen Jackson, who didn’t shoot well early on against Minnesota decided to be a passer. He doled out 15 assists, while the Warriors posted 146 points in a much needed victory.
Could this be a new Jackson? Or, was this just his latest attempt to angle himself for a possible trade?
Isn’t it strange though, that Jackson had his best game of the season right after his agent blasted coach Don Nelson and the Golden State organization?
In an ESPN report, Jackson’s agent, Mark Stevens criticized Nelson, stated the Golden State players don’t trust the coach and reiterated his want for Jackson to be traded.
Stevens’ tirade is the stuff of juveniles, a stunt by an agent who is only making the situation worse and Jackson’s time in Oakland longer.
Golden State GM Larry Riley said the outburst doesn’t change the Warriors’ plans. They’ll trade Jackson, but won’t unload him unless the move benefits the team.
But, hasn’t the window closed on the Warriors receiving anything of substance from trading Jackson? The best Golden State can do is to receive an expiring contract in return.
Teams throughout the NBA know the Warriors need to trade Jackson, which means they hold all the cards.
Against Minnesota, with a surprisingly pass happy Jackson; several Warriors had high-scoring nights, including Kalenna Azubuike (31 points), Anthony Randolph (23 points) and Anthony Morrow (20 points).
But, much of the Warriors breakout performance against Minnesota was due to the fact that they found a team worse than themselves. You really can’t put much stock in the win only that it’s better than the dreadful performance against Sacramento.
With an impossibly tough road trip upcoming against the likes of Indiana, Milwaukee, Cleveland and Boston, Golden State needed this one.
With the tough road swing ahead, you get the feeling this ride is about to become a lot bumpier.
