The business section of the Tribune's website recently began running a Recession Survival Guide, offering "Advice for getting through this" and encouraging readers to live cheaply, hold on to their jobs at all costs, and more wisely manage their money.
It had been posited in this space that the next cost-cutting move for the Tribune would be to either sell off operating divisions or shutter them entirely, and it looks like they've gone with the latter. As reported by Crain's, the paper's DC broadcasting bureau will cease to exist effective next month, casting votes-in-practice for living cheaply and taking control of their finances.
(It should be noted that closing up shop was never mentioned as part of the Future of Journalism; whether this is a stronger comment on the discussion or on the company is a topic for another day.)
