Health care reform rally Sunday
On Sunday, New Mexicans will gather in downtown Albuquerque to rally for the health-care reform (with the public option!) as a show of support for President Barack Obama, who was publicly disrespected by a Republican senator during his address earlier this week.
The GOP senator from South Carolina yelled, “You lie,” during President Obama’s speech shedding light on the mean-spirited and outright lies prompted by the Republicans.
During the address, other Republican members of Congress sat stoic, and inappropriately waved papers, or acted like pouty children during the meeting. It was a disgrace, and one matter the party should be ashamed of. Bipartisan my foot.
Obama went on to dispel the lies the GOP and conservatives talk-show hosts have been spreading through America, such as the death panels that former presidential contended Sarah Palin started saying the government wants to kill elderly citizens. How some people could believe that is beyond me.
He also reassured our nation’s seniors that their Medicare and Medicaid will be improved, and all the waste and abuse will be eliminated, making it a better (socialist) government program.
For the umpteenth time, Obama also reiterated that if you are happy with your coverage now, nothing will change. Hopefully, Americans tuned in, and heard the truth from the president.
The next night on CBS News, it was reported 1 out of every 7 Americans is living in poverty – that’s making below $22,000 for a family of four. There are nearly 40 million Americans affected, and many got that way from the abuses of the health care system in place now.
For instance, pharmaceutical companies made $35 Billion in profits in 2008. Insurance companies made $11 Billion in profits. How much profit can you claim?
I’ll be at the rally Sunday, joining hundreds of other Americans who want to do what’s right: Ensure every American has health insurance.
