Re: Denver Immigration Reform Examiner ; Our misguided population growth paradigm: accelerating consequences, July 15, 2009

So far, 1,000 email plus responses hit my website and nearly 50 on the Examiner website responding to my interview with Dave Gardner www.growthbusters.com . Amazingly, many understood, but many wrote in a ‘fog of emotion’. Some think that the human race enjoys the entire universe to continue expanding.

One fellow thought the USA could hold two billion people with no problems as to water, food and environmental quality. He failed to address ‘quality of life’ for humans or the other animals. At that point, we’d all be living like gerbils in a fishbowl.

One artist, Shim Shimmel, wrote, “With creatures like human beings, even the stars aren’t safe.”

I agree. Someone said, "Humans prove God’s highest expression and worst mistake." We prove a capricious, deadly, driven, crazy and irresponsible species. We cause extinction of 100 species daily worldwide by our human encroachment on animal habitat. We poison the planet with 70,000 chemicals. We trash the oceans and we carve up the planet like a piece of bacon. We poison the air and water beyond breathing and drinking. We kill 100 million sharks annually for the past 20 years for ‘shark fin soup’ while tossing their withering bodies back into the drink. Cruel! We spread our plastic death and drift nets all over the planet, but think not of our folly.

Therefore, instead of trying to educate, I offer bigger guns. Please visit the work of Chris Clugston. Following is a high level summary of a detailed analysis of America’s “predicament” and its inevitable consequences. The complete analysis and associated models, evidence, and references can be found at http://www.wakeupamerika.com/PDFs/On-American-Sustainability.pdf.
On American Sustainability—Anatomy of a Societal Collapse

After seeing his facts and graphs, you will not be able to respond in a ‘fog of emotion’.

Clugston said, “My take on the “one thing that we’ve got to know” is that we must learn to look at the world from Nature’s perspective—and all Nature cares about is “gozintas” and “gozoutas”, our natural resource utilization behavior. As long as our gozoutas (natural resource utilization levels) are less than Nature’s gozintas (Nature’s replenishment levels), our natural resource utilization behavior is sustainable—and so are our economic activity level and our population level (and material living standards), which are both determined by our natural resource utilization behavior.

“Trying to operate that causal link backwards doesn’t work, because simply stabilizing or reducing our population level and/or stabilizing or reducing our economic activity level (economic growth) will not make us sustainable. We’ll merely defer societal collapse, not avert it.

“That’s the message I’d like the “overpopulation” and “unlimited economic growth” folks to consider; they’re hacking at the branches, not striking at the root of our predicament, IMO. Only through sustainable natural resource utilization behavior—gozoutas less than gozintas, forever—can we ever be sustainable as a society or as a species (assuming that’s our goal?!). Interesting that if (and only if) we’d adopt sustainable natural resource utilization behavior, our economic activity level and our population level/living standard combination would “adjust” to sustainable levels as well—undoubtedly DOWNWARD, drastically!!

“That being said, the thing that concerns me about most “overpopulation” and “limited growth” articles is that they seldom quantify their assertions. By that I mean that if you say to somebody “we’re overpopulated”, their first response is “bullshit, we’re all here aren’t we”—and you’re DONE; end of discussion!! So, IMHO, when you say we’re overpopulated, you’ve got to be able to say “why” and “by how much”.

“And the “why” is because “sure we’re all here today, although some only marginally, BUT we won’t all be here in the very near future because supplies of many critical natural resources that currently enable our current population level and material living standards—oil, natural gas, coal, potassium, phosphorous, and a host of metals and minerals—will not be available at sufficient levels in the very near future to support even our existing population at its current material living standards, let alone increases to either or both. We are currently undergoing a Nature-imposed, geological transition from ‘continuously more and more’ natural resources to ‘continuously less and less’. Our population level and living standards WILL reflect this transition.”

“And the “by how much” is “the best case scenario for an industrialized society such as the US, which is heavily dependent upon nonrenewable Natural resources—which are finite and are never replenished by Nature—is probably an 80+% reduction in BOTH our population level and material living standards; for a ‘sustainable America’, think 50 million people living like populations in Cuba or Kazakhstan today. And that’s best case…”

“And you might want to add “when we will collapse?”—and it is a “when” not an “if”—is “5 years possibly, 15 years probably, and 25 years almost certainly—we are not talking about generations or centuries; we will not be sustainable, and we will not be sustainable soon.”

“Of course nobody wants to hear any of this, at any level of detail, which is why you get the comments that you get. We like our American way of life, we feel entitled to it, and we believe that it will last forever—and we refuse to hear or to even consider any assertions or evidence to the contrary. Unfortunately, our belief system—our cornucopian worldview—runs completely counter to reality, and is totally irrelevant to Nature.”

Again, facts and reality trump emotions, culture, beliefs and bias. The movie “Blind Spot” at www.blindspotdoc.com and “What a Way to Go” will educate you beyond anything I can write. Once you see both movies, every responder to my website and to the Examiner.com will agree totally because, “Now you know the rest of the story.”

George H.W. Bush said, “The American way of life is not negotiable!”
Mother Nature replied, “Wanna’ bet!”

Roy Beck's "IMMIGRATION BY THE NUMBERS" is the single best educational appreciation of America's future if we allow ourselves to add another 100 million people. Just click on this site for the most sobering experience of your children's future.

Roy Beck gives a graphic presentation of our fate if we continue to allow legal and illegal immigration to swamp this country. If you have children, you will be particular unnerved at their fate. I know Roy Beck personally and his integrity and knowledge stand at the top. Pass this web site 14 minute video far and wide across America to educate everyone you know. We either stop this human tsunami or the future of this country will be much like Rome's. We must, as a nation and a civilization, move to secure our country from this massive, unrelenting population overload from a line that never ends. This will be the most compelling 14 minute video of your life.

Bob Woodruff of ABC asked input from all citizens concerning the future of our planet. Go to www.earth2100.tv for a sobering reality check as to what we face and to what I have been writing about for the past 20 years. Our ‘window’ to change to a balanced population and non-polluting energy diminishes every day we listen to irresponsible media and thus ignore the blatant symptoms manifesting all over America and the planet.

From: Frosty Wooldridge

This three minute interview with Adam Schrager on “Your Show” May 4, 2008, NBC Channel 9 News, addresses the ramifications of adding 120 million people to USA in 35 years and six million people to Colorado as to water shortages, air pollution, loss of farmland, energy costs and degradation of quality of life. In the interview, Frosty Wooldridge explains the ramifications of adding 120 million people to the USA in 35 years. He advances new concepts such as a “Colorado Carrying Capacity Policy”; “Colorado Environmental Impact Policy”; “Colorado Water Usage Policy”; “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy”. Nationally, the USA needs a "National Sustainable Population Policy" to determine the carrying capacity of this nation for the short and long term. Wooldridge is available for interviews on radio and TV having interviewed on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX.
