Sanja Gjenero / StockNo matter what shape, size, age, gender, color or species, friends are an integral part of people's lives. In good times and bad, friends are there to share, to laugh and to cry.

In 1935, the United States Congress proclaimed the first Sunday of August, National Friendship Day.  Other countries join in on the annual event as well. Also known as World Friendship Day and International Friendship Day, regardless what you call it, Friendship Day it is a special day of the year to honor, recognize and remember those very special relationships and special people called friends.

This year, National Friendship Day is August 2, 2009. And reminding that BFF how important they are to you does not need to be expensive either. Why not take a moment and do something special for that special friend this year?
