The Twilight Vixen Revue, performing at The Garage
I'll be posting daily Pride events every morning throughout the week. If you'd like to see your event here, just drop me a line at gayexaminer@gmail.com (thanks to those who've already done so). I'm listing Thursday's events in roughly chronological order.

"The Golden Girls: The Gay Episodes" at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory (1519 Mission). I wasn't crazy about it, but maybe the girls have gotten their act together. 7 and 10 pm; $20. Email goldengirlssf@earthlink.net for tickets.

The Twilight Vixen Revue and SF Boylesque Q-baret Spectacular at The Garage (975 Howard). Queer showgirls! All-male burlesque! Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 pm; $10-$20.

30th Annual Pride Concert: Our Message is Music at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco (1187 Franklin). The Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco and the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus join up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band. 8 pm; $15-$40. Call 415-865-ARTS for more info.

"It's Murder, Mary!" at the New Conservatory Theatre Center (25 Van Ness). It's the final weekend for this world-premiere play, which is something like Eight Women with an all-male cast. My review is here; pre-show cocktails are basically required. 8 pm; call 415-861-8972 or visit nctcsf.org for tickets.

The Cruise at Lexington Club (3464 19th St). Drag king Jay Walker hosts this Pride event at your friendly neighborhood dyke bar. 9 pm.

7-Day Load at 440 Castro. A monthly dance party that you can write home to Mom about. 9 pm; free.

Drift: Pride Kick-Off at The Transfer (198 Church). A night of house music just for the lesbians. 10 pm; $3.

A three-minute alternative to "Mamma Mia!"

July 20, 12:28 AM
So I saw "Mamma Mia!" tonight. My needs are few, OK? I just wanted to watch a bunch of scantily clad people running around a Greek island singing ABBA songs. Give me a sun-kissed, middle-aged heroine surrounded by shirtless Mediterraneans,... Read More

Charo: A savvy blend of trashiness and talent

June 29, 11:32 PM
Charo—one of the celebrity grand marshals in this year's Pride parade—gave a concert on Sunday night at The Herbst, and I've decided that she's either very savvy or very crazy. Or both. "You're probably wondering, 'How old is that... Read More

Pride haiku

June 27, 7:08 PM
Briefly... Just off a phone call with my friend Andy, who complained that (contrary to those who think that Pride gets more and more outrageous every year) the parade used to be far raunchier in the '80s. His summary of the dominant mantra of ... Read More

Too proud?: A debate on Gay Pride

June 25, 11:01 AM
So it seems that my seemingly innocuous Pride week calendar stoked a bit of a debate over at a blog called Bookworm Room. (This is a long post, but I think you'll find the back-and-forth worthwhile.) From Bookworm's post:I’m quite libertarian... Read More
