Dude, this weekend is gay: 5/23-5/26
A (new!) weekly feature posted every Friday morning.
I'll be in
Chicago this weekend, so I won't be doing much posting besides a little coverage of
International Mr. Leather. (Check back on Monday for the
messy details.)
However! For those of you sticking around SF, your options are legion. Ladies and gentlemen, behold your weekend:
"Point Break Live!" at Xenodrome (1320 Portrero). A live dramatization of that brief moment in history when the careers of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze merged in an ecstatic celebration of surfing, grand larceny, and Richard Nixon. A good choice for those who prefer their irony shirtless. Showing Friday 5/23 at 9 pm and Saturday 5/24 at 7:30 and 10 pm through June 21. $25.
Planet Big at The Stud (399 9th St.), Friday 5/23 from 9 pm-2 am. A biweekly event for the Rubenesque and those who love them. $5.
Ghettodisco at The Endup (401 6th St.), beginning at 10 pm on Friday 5/23 and continuing for "38 continuous hours." Just an option—you know, in case Craigslist isn't sketchy enough for you. $20.
13th Annual S**t Kickin' Memorial Day Party at El Rio (3158 Mission), Monday 5/26 from 3-9 pm. This weekend's weather doesn't look like it'll be ideal for Dolores Park, so generating a little friction on a packed patio might be a fine way to keep warm.
Carnaval San Francisco in the Mission. Not necessarily gay—but considering that your chances of meeting a bona fide Brazilian are pretty high, it'll do. The Festival takes place on Harrison between 16th and 24th on Saturday 5/24 from 9:30am-6:00pm and Sunday 5/25 from 9:30am-6:00pm; the Parade begins at 24th and Harrison at 9:30 am on Sunday. Free.
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" at the Castro Theatre (429 Castro). Again, not necessarily gay. But if you're trying to tell me that you've never fantasized about evil, sweaty Indy all half-nekkid and demonically possessed in "Temple of Doom," then there's just no help for you. (You may object that Harrison Ford is now 65 and no longer primed for nekkidness. In response, I submit Shia LaBoeuf chowing on a banana.) Showing all weekend at 10:15 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm, and 10 pm. $10.
