Melo pleads guilty; new celeb spokesperson for safe driving program

June 24, 3:03 PM
by Jennifer Finke, Denver Celebrity Examiner

Nuggets larger-than-life forward, Carmelo Anthony, faced the judge today when he pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and failure to stay in one lane. It appears that his celebrity may have enabled him to avoid DUI charges - which would have likely landed him in jail. Instead, the basketball star will only serve a year’s probation and 24 hours of community service.

In addition to his sentence, Melo's attorney told reporters that he is going to be the new celebrity spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol's Alive At 25 program, which educates youth about the dangers of drinking and driving.  While Melo is probably one of the last role models most of us want for our children, at least he is doing something good (albeit, a bit too late) and is trying to turn his reckless image around.

Melo’s wife -err fiance, La La Vasquez, and Nuggets coach, George Karl, were also present at the Denver County Court to support their leading man Melo.
