Former beloved Broncos players Steve Atwater (pictured), Terrell Davis and Rod Smith are likely feeling mixed emotions today, as the man that cheated them out of millions of dollars hanged himself on Saturday while awaiting sentencing in an Atlanta jail.Apparently, Harvard educated fund manager, Kirk Wright, convinced former famous Broncos safety, Atwater, and several of Atwater’s Broncos cronies to invest in his illegitimate hedge fund. The fund was actually a spending account that Wright used to buy jewelry, real estate and other luxury items. Wright was convicted last week and was facing up to 710 years behind bars.
Atwater commented on the ordeal after learning about Wright’s death. "It's a tragic deal all around," he said.
The Denver Post reports that Atwater lost almost $3 million of his own money and was responsible for raising more than $15 million through his NFL friends.
