If you're a garden blogger--or are flirting with the idea of starting a garden blog--Chicago is the place to be May 29 through 31 during the Chicago Spring Fling.

The event brings together garden bloggers from around the country to hobnob, share ideas and tour public and private gardens and gardening resources.

The first Spring Fling was hosted by Austin, TX, area gardeners last spring. The event was attended by more than 40 established and beginning garden bloggers. It was such a huge success that the Chicago-area garden bloggers volunteered to organize the event for this spring.

Events planned for this year include tours of Rick Bayless's private urban/edible garden, Lurie Garden in Millennium Park, the Rose Gardens at Grant Park and other private garden events.

If you're not usually a "joiner" and are concerned about not knowing anyone, put your worries to rest. Garden bloggers are open and welcoming. Rarely have I gone to an event without knowing anyone and had such a good time. The shared love of gardens seems to break down any walls of reserve. And there are some real characters, such as Examiner's Idaho Gardening Examiner Mary Ann Newcomer and Oklahoma Gardening Examiner Dee Nash to help mix things up.

Attend and you'll head home with some new friendships, some great memories and maybe even a few plants.
